Took this with a Canon 450D and Sigma 18~200 lens. I shot it in a dark room with a black background and lit it using a small white led torch. I think the exposure was about 10-15 seconds.

Nice composition, nice crop. Image looks a bit under exposed. One of the goals of shooting still life is the maintain or produce a 3 dimensional view of the image.
I like the black background but you need some separation from the flowers and their background. You creatively control the 3 dimensional aspect of the image by using light and shadows to give a perspective of depth. Where was your light positioned? Use some reflectors as fill cards to assist with lighting the flowers from different angles. You can also use a black fill card as a subtractive fill card (used to remove light) Also you could use some colored gel to light a small section of the back ground behind the flowers. Think 3 d use highlights and shadows to enhance your images and try to project them from the back ground. Thanks Joe
