Wink Towel Rack

I just got into photography and entered the weekly assignment any critique, tips and suggestions would be appreciated.

Panasonic DMC-FZ35
Exposure: 1/30
Apeture: 3.0
Focal Length: 6.8 mm
ISO speed: 800
Flash: Did not fire
Capture Time: Jun 14, 2010

Good exposure, I do not like the dutch angle for this shot. You shot at ISO 800, Unless you have a high end pro camera High ISO lowers image quality and introduces noise.

Go buy yourself a tripod and shoot at the lowest ISO.

Get the flash off the camera, it produces flat lighting. If you have to shoot with the flash on the camera diffuse the lighting, (put some paper in front of the flash,) Google soft box and diffused lighting. Soft lighting with a gradual shadow fall-off is a much better way to control the 3 dimensional control of your images.

Keep on developing you creative eye. You have to start to see what your camera see's and not see with your human eye.

I am very new also, but I agree with Joe about the flat lighting. I also think that there HAS to be something better that you could have chosen for the subject, especially one that you intend to use for the dutch angle. The towel rack doesn't give the viewer much emotion or feeling towards the image, I think maybe because there is too much going on, too many objects that don't convey anything. This is just my personal opinion, but I hope it helps
