Default tools of the trade

Hi, guys, I just got my first DSLR a couple of days ago and I am having sooo much fun with it. I wanted to portray my husbands paint brushes in front of a painting he's been working on, but is the background too distracting? I wanted a blurry, colorful background against the straight lines of the brushes. Any thoughts?

I think this is a great idea!
The following is just my personal opinion regarding composition....I find the two brushes on the right hand side of the photo distracting...the ones that are "nested" one in front of the other. Also, the 2 brushes at the bottom where you can see only the very tops look like they don't belong.

Yeah, I see what you mean, especially with the little ones on the bottom. Should have taken those out. Thanks for the critique!
