Smile dance event - my first attempt - need critics

Folks,

This is the first dance event I captured and need critics and guidance on how I can improve. Please note I'm new to this camera (few weeks old) and still learning. So any Tips / Guidance is appreciated.

Some of the challenges I faced during this are
1) Irregular lighting
2) Fast movement
3) Background illumination

I think windriders comment was a hint for you to add the exif info.. or do you not have it. It's really difficult to comment on this image without it because all I could say now is it's really really underexposed.

I like the color but it is way too dark. I'm also new to this but maybe the the aperture could have been set to the largest setting (f 2.8) and exposure set to a longer setting? were you using a tripod?
