Default Would like comments on this photo

I do not have a record of the settings for this photo and do not have a viewer where I am at to extract it from the file.

It was taken with a NIKON D90 in outdoor light with a flash fill. Make any comments but please leave out the comments about it being a gun and you dont like guns as I dont care that you don't!

The fact it is a gun is not important, however, the background looks a little to busy for this type of photograph.

I'd agree with Jim, the background is very busy. Being that I'm not particularly familiar with guns, I had a bit of a hard time figuring out what was what on the photo at first because the black of the targets was blending in with the scope and at first I thought maybe the gun was dismantled. Also, remember to keep an eye on the entire frame, so all the way out to the corners. Even though I found the background distracting, I also found it distracting that it cut out in the upper corners.

I think my question for you is what are you trying to show? Or what do you want this photo to say? If you're trying to make it about showing off the features of the gun I would simplify. Simplify the background, simplify the focus and really focus on what it is you want to stand out.

Hope that makes sense and helps out a bit?

i also think it looks a little soft (out of focus) - might be an artifact of the compression but lacks sharpness.

BTW, I've found that well executed images of firearms are always well recieved here.

The guns appear to be slightly out of focus.
And I found myself to be staring more at the background than the actual subject.
Though I do like the gun.
Just my two cents

Default I like the concept...

I do like the concept but for several reasons stated above the image leaves me a little cold. I would have liked to see a gnat-sharp pistol and accouterments with the targets being a bit out of focus.

You could do this in several ways, the two of which I am thinking of off-the-bat are:

Setting the pistol etc. on a glass with the targets below the glass. That might cause reflection problems but, could be done.

Photograph the gun etc. on a plain background and superimpose the image(s) on a slightly OOF image of the targets...
