Hello dpt,
Not sure what your creative aim was with this image. There are a lot of variables in the creative process of taking photographs. Many of these variables are subjective, meaning, what looks good to you may not look good to someone else. Some things to consider, Depth of field as a creative control: In your image you shot at f/1.8. This gives you very shallow depth of field. Did you do this for effect or because your were limited on available light? Take the tree outside and shoot in the sun, This will give you more light and then offer you more creative alternatives, If you want a darker mood you can always shoot at a faster shutter speed. The image does look a bit under exposed. Learn to use your histogram on your camera in conjunction with your light meter. This will give you greater creative control and a more technical correct exposure. Did you intend for the background to be that dark? Or did you intend to have a brighter background closer to white? A flash or bright sunlight would again give you more alternatives, Try shooting different angles and distances from the subject. More or less space to frame the tree could change the look of this image. The tight crop of the tree seems to be a bit confining for my tastes. But again you may have done this for effect. Take a look at how other photographers are shooting still life images, on flickr and other photo sites. Then try to choose your own style. Keep on shooting and keep on submitting, Make photography fun. Thanks Joe |
