Hey guys,
Here is a shot I took last night in front of the local university. It is my friends car. He is loving being one of my guinea pigs. Obsessions with cars, and photography, suck!!!! Always wanting to do better. So, I want to know what YOU yes YOU think of this photo. I went with a 'lower' ISO and a longer shutter time in order to try to make the image less grainy. 323ci pt4 by ~mitch41 on deviantART You can find 3 others of the same car on my gallery over there. Thanks guys.

Hey! I'm so sorry I meant to include the exif data. Here's the important bits.
Camera Data Make: Canon Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II Shutter Speed: 1/2 second Aperture: F/7.1 Focal Length: 24 mm ISO Speed: 1600 Date Taken: Jun 2, 2010, 9:44:01 PM the time is off by one hour I believe. It was actually 10:44 PM. Shot in aperture priority. Chose 1600 iso with a longer shutter time to reduce grain in the image.

Technically it's good image. The lighting is good and a great scene of the building.
As a car shot though I find the car itself is lost a bit in the image - it's too small in the frame and too dark relative to the building behind. Including the sky in the top right corner tends to emphasis this. If you have the opportunity to re-take this image, stand a bit closer & maybe have the camera a bit lower as well, underexpose the building a little to reduce the 'hotspot' behind the car, and try a flash or perhaps 'painting' the car with torchlight to highlight it. Hope this helps. Remember it's only one person's opinion!

I wanted to take photos from closer up. The owner of the car wanted to show the whole building. I do have the opportunity to re shoot and will. This was mostly just a test. Surely I don't think it is a totally amazing perfect image!
Another problem with being closer is that my shadow would be showing even worse. I did a quick edit to remove the shadow but that also, is not perfectly well done! Thank you for your kind words and I will take your advice into my next shoots ![]() Anyone else?

Thanks for your reply - feedback on a critique is a good thing too
I'm pleased you found my comments useful.Perhaps if you can try a wider angle lens and a lower point-of-view, you might be able to accomplish all of minimising your shadow, filling the frame more with the car and including all of the building. I didn't realise you had a brief to include the whole building - a restriction you probably wouldn't have had if you were shooting for yourself. It would be useful if you could include this type of info when requesting a critique. I'll be interested to see your future images!

I've been thinking about getting the 15 mm fisheye canon lens. It would work extremely well on my full frame and crop bodies.
The shoots I do isn't exactly always about the car. It's not like we are trying to sell the car or use it in an advertisement etc.. That's why I try to find awesome places the lighting here is just too perfect! Expect more in the coming weeks.Mitch cook

I agree with the above, the car is too small in the frame. To me, it looks like you tried too hard to get a shot of the building and a shot of the car in the same frame and didn't really succeed with either. IMO, if you want to concentrate on the car then you don't need the building to compete with it. Think of shooting it as the background for the main subject rather than as the 2nd subject of the photo.
