I wonder if a more active looking subject would work better? The main thing I have used zoom blur for is abstract shots of autumn leaves. Here your subject is sitting back and that seems to conflict with the sense of movement that zoom blur imparts.

I have felt that a slower lens retract shows better results in many cases. Oherwise there impact of each frame (the optical image on the sensor for fraction of second while the lens is still in motion) is too low.
Also; from the few zoom-blurr effects I have seen there is just one object of interest. In this case though there are a few. eg. a) the head of the subject b) the paper roll or stick held in the hand; c) the table lamp behind the head Again from the few zoom-blurr effects I have seen: The main subject shares the same axis with the axis of the lens cylinder. I know and strongly feel that this is difficult to set up such effects at runtime (pretty fast)... But that too adds a lot of weight to your subject .. Overall I loved this effect too; with my rudimentary sense in image capturing. |
