Default Love my new 7D

My 7D can be a little slow. What can I do in this situation besides using a tripod?

You have a shutter speed of 1/6 seconds in this shot. The problem is not the movement of the camera, notice that the background is reasonably sharp. Your shutter speed is simply too low, so the movement of the people causes blur. You need a faster shutter speed, either a faster lens or a higher ISO setting.

I love the composition by the way, well done!

Hi Hans50,

I have a 7D too and I love it too. I don't find that the camera is slow. I've gotten great images at ISO 800. In a situation like this you need more light. As cansan said try a faster lens (do you have a fast 50?) or a higher ISO.

Also, you might try using the pop-up flash. If you let it pop at full power it will give you a very harsh image, but if you lower the power by a stop or two, you might like the results. To lower the flash output, press the ISO button and turn the wheel on the back. For this shot, I would have started at -1 and if that was too bright gone down from there.

Hope that helps!

KG

Thanks Cansan and KG for you help. In the meanwhile I got to know the 7D much better. KG, I do not want to use flash specially during performances but I will play around with the divers settings such as ISO and exposure control. I always shoot in RAW so I have much edit possibilities in Photoshop.
