Default All Alone...

I do not know this child. I found her sitting all alone in front of the local zoo. (Her mother was not far away but was very much occupied by a cell phone conversation.) I processed this shot in about 4 clicks, including a bit of crop. I'm very proud of it but I also know that I have a lot to learn about everything.

So take off the kid gloves and fire away. Get really nit-picky. Tell me what I could do better. Is this a tired theme? How's my composition? Does the vignette work for you?

I think the compostion is good. I do not like to coloring on it.. throws me off.. would prefer something more untouched and more natural light with some highlighting.

This is a very moving photo. I am a mother of a young child and some mothers do not see this because they are to preoccupied with themselves. Wish you could have gotten the mother in the shot as well ... that would have made it pretty incredible. The truth of a child never gets old... Keep shooting.

I'm happy to say that this child was not sad. She was sort of playing hide and seek with herself. She would look up and be all smiles. When I first saw her with her head down, I thought for sure she was lost because there were so few people around. I was relieved when she picked her head up and shot a smile at her mommy.

However, it is her mother's preoccupation with the telephone conversation that allowed me to snap this shot unnoticed. Had I first approached the mother to ask permission, it would have taken the "stolen" aspect away. I made sure I did not get a shot of this girl's face out of respect for her privacy.

How about this?

I like your capture and this is a sample crop based on Golden Spiral.

I also like the natural color photo as well. I think LoveDSLR's crop is a bit too tight at the top, but it seems to be the best crop available with this composition. So I think the photo's impact is the same whether cropped or not.

I actually like the color in the first picture. Had I not read anything on this post and just took the picture for what it is, it seems to convey some sort of tragedy.

Good job and thanks for sharing

Thanks so much everyone! I think sometimes I get so excited with a product that I forget that digital lets me do so much more... Blur... Of course! Never even occurred to me. I'll have a few different ideas to work with now. Thanks again!

I think that this an amazing photo. I am a beginner at photography. I really like the way that this picture could be taken so many ways. I prefer the picture with the very saturated colors. Great photo.
