Default Beginnings

Hello all....I'm still very new to the world beyond AUTO. I've been reading, practicing, and reading more on photography everyday. I have taken more pictures in the last month than in the last year. I'm adding one of a flower I took. I'd like to know the if the settings seem to show the flower in a good light, what other options could I use, and how would I use Macro with this type of shot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Kelly

I am no too familiar with your camera but if it is anything like my point and shoot with its fixed lens, then it is next to impossible to blur the background to allow the flower to stand out. I probably would have added a touch of fill flash through a pop up flash diffuser to brighten the flower a bit.

Patrick,
Thanks so much for your suggestion. Guess my next assignment is to figure out what a pop up flash diffuser is!!!

What you are asking for is a shallow depth of field and it can be accomplished by pushing your aperture up as much as you can. The higher the aperture, the more depth of field you'll get. You shot it at f/4.0, try pushing the ISO up to 200 and open the aperture up all the way. This will ensure you still get plenty of light, but still get the depth of field you are looking for.
