Default Composition and message

I was thinking about putting this in the Macro section but thought it didn't really belong there. How do you find the composition? Also do you feel the headstones lend themselves to the picture without being to obvious?

New Life

Also please could you look at my other photo and please please critique it as along with this it's a favourite:

I really like the composition here, very well thought out.

The flower (life) in the light and the headstones (death) in the dark, very apt. The only blemish is the tree silhouette which I think isn't really needed in the shot, but maybe you couldn't get the shadow without the tree?

I know what you mean about the tree and I have pondered over this. I could have shifted my position but as you can see just behind the flower, the light starts hitting the headstones as the shadow shortens.

I did want to keep the headstones in the shade and your description of light/life and shade/death didn't actually occur to me to be honest. I was concentrating on the flower and getting the headstones in shot without the light hitting them, bonus score on that one then...thanks
