Unhappy Yellow Crane

Hi there. This is my first post here on DPS Forums.
So today as I was walking home from school I saw this nice combination of colors so I've decided to take a picture of the scene, but I'm not quite happy with the result.
Maybe It's the composition, the angle or something else.
I'd really like to improve my shots as I'm just a beginer.

And if you have some spare time you could also take a look at my Flickr photostream and give me some suggestions and criticise my pictures.

Thanks a lot

Here's the picture

I've done a little adjustment using curves in photoshop to get better colors.
It was shot handheld with my Pentax Optio S12 on auto mode with ISO64

Hello and welcome!

Regarding composition, I'd crop a bit the foreground as it is not the most interesting part of the picture. Cropping using the rule of thirds can help a bit make the crane more dominant...

Welcome to the DPS community.

Alex's crop of your photo has moved it up a notch. Don't be afraid to compose for a different aspect ratio - don't let the hardware limit your creativity.

Keep pushing that button trying all sorts of approaches. Hang about with DPS & you'll learn plenty.

Above all ENJOY your new hobby

Thank you for your tips. I haven't really thought of cropping it in that way. I think I liked the stones too much to crop them

I know about the rule of thrids as I've already read lots of tutorials here on DPS. I fell in love with this site as soon as I had stumbled upon it thanks

And by the way I hope my english isn't all that bad as I'm from a non-english speaking country
