1st time poster. We are expecting, and I'm not use to taking pictures of people, especially inside. So all attempts at taking photos of my wife and her belly have come out horrible. While practicing with light, etc, I decided to play with some baby shoes. I do like the shot, for the most part, but it doesn't wow me. Please offer your critiques. Is it in focus enough? Is that bright upper left corner distracting? Any suggestions is appreciated, thanks.

I like it. I like the light coming from behind the shoes. I think the bottom shoe's position is a little off, you don't see as much detail of the shoe as I would like to see and the shoe seems a little flattened if that makes any sense.

Because the photo is so dark, I get a dreary feel from it rather than a happy sense to the photo. I agree on repositioning the shoes...one where you see the side and maybe one turned on it's side. Or take this same shot from a bit higher perspective. I also feel the shadows and background are fighting for attention. Possibly a shallower dof would bring more attention to the shoes alone.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, I am not too crazy about the shoes. It's the only pair we have to far. I think I will buy some just to practice with. :-) I see what you mean about "dreary". I did darken it a bit in PS, mainly because that bright spot was so darn bright. I will re-attack this photo with some new shows and new angles. Thanks again!

Neat idea but for me its too dark for baby shoes. Guess I think of baby more brighter side but thats just me. neat how the shadow is though under the shoes.

Something else to be aware of, you have a "kiss" on the left hand side of the frame. The shoe and shadow just touches the edge of the frame. This tends to be distracting and takes away from the subject. Try to either leave some space around your subject or cut off enough to be artistic. :-)
