Default You Jerk !

This was project I did for an entry to a monthly challenge entitled 'Communications'. But there is something about the overall appearance of this experiment. I felt it lack the impact somehow. I humbly request some feedback on how this kind of shots could had been better. Comments and Criticism welcomed.

Camera mounted on Tripod
Used Remote trigger on Continuos mode
Photix off-camera Remote flash trigger

Post Processing

Lower Brightness and Increase contrast, Selective Burning, Adjusted Saturation, Smart Sharpening, and resized for web upload

For me, the background is a distracting element.

Thank you for the feedback. I was thinking of putting a linen backdrop over but then I wanted to more natural background as that of a dining room. But you're right. It does look distracting now that you mentioned it.

I'll add that everything in the photo is good except the background. Just my opinion...

My two cents.

The hand should not be as bright as the face. Otherwise, it will be competing for the viewer's attention.

Not only the background is distracting but it is in wrong color and/or exposure. It should be darker to bring out the water splash and complementing the skin tone and T-shirt color.

Furthermore, the face is too bright to allow the splash shows its full impact.

You have a big hot spot under the hand, move the flash away a bit and soften it to help remove the shadows
