Default Experimenting with composition

I took this shot at Nan Tien Temple, Wollongong. I'm trying to conciously compose my shots, bar the odd aspect ratio, I would love constructive criticism on how I am doing and how I can improve the shot.

NIKON D90
Exposure Time 1/160 sec
F-Number f/18.0
Exposure Program Manual
ISO Speed Rating 200

I like the couple in the middle, their shadow and the squares in the pavement. However, I find the people to the left and right of the couple to be unnecessary. Also, the people in the top left are cut off. They should either be included in the picture in their entirety or removed completely. I would try a closer crop of the couple and their shadow only. You might find this to be more visually pleasing.

I like the photo. It has some interesting lines. However, I would like to see it panned up a little so the people walking have some place to go. Perhaps if the bottom of the photo were a little higher, just below the start of the shadow it would provide a little more depth?

Here's the uncropped version and another recropped one, if it's not too much, if someone could show me, what would be the best kind of crop for this photo

Cheers

I like the idea for this image; the pavement squares and the long shadows. However, shots like this are often a matter of timing. My question to you, therefore, is this: is this the best combination of the day? If you had waited a few minutes more could you have found a more compelling combination? I will let you come to your own conclusions but your experiment is clearly headed in the right direction.

Probably, but it was one of those times, where I could see the idea in my head and with a fairly short period of time to take a photo, but I can see what you mean, waiting here or there could have improved the shot by far.

Thanks everyone for the tips

I am still a noob when it comes to serious photography; however, I did think of, what I consider to be an interesting way to crop your photo. I have attached it below. Again this is just my untrained eye making a suggestion based upon what I liked of the photo. I hope you don't mind but I also took the liberty of photoshopping out some of the people in the top right corner to accentuate the couple walking. I really do like the lines you have on the photo. I think it makes it very interesting.
