Default Background too distracting? (HK wetland park)

Took this another shot in the HK wetland park of a "Pink Powder Puff"
Do you guys think that the background with the bridge and the small river is distracting?
Any good recommendations on how I can improve the overall composition? (i.e. cropping . .any other post editing technqiues?)

Pink Powder Puff

Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1600)
Aperture: f/6.3
Focal Length: 47 mm
ISO Speed: 400
Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Thanks guys!

I think it's thrown nicely out of focus and thus is not a big distraction.

I don't find the background distracting at all. I think you selected the perfect DOF. And, the composition works just fine. Nice one. Congrats!

I feel like the background looks great with this picture. It gives a little context to the image.

Very nice shot.

overall I like it. What I do find distracting is that brown leaf (?) coming out of the top of the flower. I would have got rid of that. I perhaps also might have come in a little closer, so that the flower filled a bit more of the image, but you can still see the bridge in the background if that was what you were wanting to do - to show a sense of place.

I quite agree with that. The background is not distracting, but it takes too much space in the image.

What I would like to add is that the flower itself is a little bit dark. More light would help to highlight it.

The bokeh works although I would crop the subject a bit tighter and get rid of some of the background.
