In light of recent assignment issue, would like some advice here..

Hello,

I posted this awhile back in the SYS area, but in light of the recent thread on the beverage assignment, I thought I would be a good photo to ask for help on.

Other then my cropping being off on the top and just barely showing the full glass, I was wondering if it was ok overall? Is the lighting ample or the exposure to much? I used available light and no flash.

The exposure and lighting look fine, the composition is where it struggles.
when you look at this what to you see, what is your eye drawn to?
me? the out of focus straw in the center then the other straws and i look to see why they are aligned at such angles... but see no reason.
The straws the the brightest part of the image and pull your eye away from the glass of water.
I think it woould be a better image without the straws.

I think the glass of water looks very inviting. I like that the glass has a blue tint to it. What doesn't work for me is the table. I'm sure it's a lovely table but it isn't making me want to reach out and take that glass of water. I also agree with zona on the straw thing. A slice of lemon or lime in the water would help. Maybe even a different prop that would indicate why that ice cold glass of water is desired.
