Rose...

Hi!
I recently took this photo and I was wondering if I could get some tips on what I could do better for next time and stuff.
I took it on a Sony point and shoot camera and I edited it in Photoshop. Thats about it... any critique you can give me is welcomed... good and bad

I think the photo idea is nice, but the colors are giving off a blah and unrealistic feel to the shot. A rose can obviously be any color we choose these days, but the hands being blown out and so white I just don't get a human feel from them. I don't know alot about post processing but if the original has more color I would think you could rework this and give it more humanistic feel to it.

The depth of field is well used and ads interest. I agree with freezeframe that I'm not in love with the colour treatment.

For an alternate treatment you could try selective colour on the rose - overdone I know, but this would be a good example for it in my mind.

Also, bringing the colours back up to full and letting the soft focus speak for itself would be a good way to go as well.

The edges of the rose petal are clipped by the edge of the frame, which ads a bit of tension. If this is cropped a slightly less tight crop could help it. I know I just got a flower picture I'm absurdly happy with as well that has the same problem in my original file, I can't go back and de-crop it as it's how it was shot. Oh well, we live and learn.

Thank you both! I was going for a more unrealistic "dreamy" kind of a look. And i'm really pale. lol But I could bring a little more colour to the picture... I desaturated it in photoshop... so I could try alittle more saturation.
