Default Panasonic Lumix GF1 suitable for a Mongolian expedition?

I have been looking for a small DSLR-type camera that will be lighter than my 40D to take on an expedition to Mongolia next summer, and my father suggested the GF1. Does anyone have experience with this to give me some pros & cons of using it in this situation, or suggestions for something that might work better?

Thanks,
lale

Is that monsoon season? If it is, I'd hesitate. My D700 went down in Sierra Leone last August due to rain, and it's got decent weather sealing.

You might want to have a look at this field test: Panasonic Lumix GF1 Field Test — 16 Days in the Himalayas

EDIT: I just saw that this thread was quite old, the link is still interesting though!
