Thanks - I'm coming to appreciate what the camera can do. As I indicated earlier, I can definitely see the places where this camera falls short of a good DSLR - low-light capability, wide-aperture (bokeh), but let's not forget the biggie -- price!
When there's adequate light, though, I'm really happy with the results. The reach of the lens gives me a lot more flexibility than the 4x G3. I think it'll work well for its intended purpose. |

Thanks, that was really helpful!
I have been thinking about buying this camera because although I do enjoy photography, I don't think that I want to go into buying a DSLR and loads of lenses etc. (cost, im 15) and a Superzoom would be more benificial because of the size. Basically, would you recomend the camera and would it do me well as a entry to more serious photography? or would I need a DSLR? Liam |

Hiya. I, too have the Panny and I like it for the same reasons. In good light outside, I catch some good shots at about 200 + or - feet for deer or squirrels.
It's also good in scenic mode for moon shots. I, too, thought long and hard, tho I admit that I have an Olympus E510 for DSLR backup. I don't want to take it on woody walks, tho. There is no sense in lugging lenses and beating both it and me up. If you're in the states, B&H Photo has an Open Box sale usually. Same warranty as brand new but it's used as a floor model in shop. That is how I got mine. Hope this helps. |

my experience with panasonic p&s cameras has been with good lighting they take very good pics, but when the lighting starts fading the graininess ramps up pretty fast.
that said, my tz3 gets a good bit of use around the house, and elsewhere, for those quick shots. even my 6 year old can take decent photos with it. |
