Newbie needs your help

Hi All,

I have purchased a new Olympus E 520 recently. I don't have any formal education or training in photography but I really really love taking photos. As a matter of fact the first photo I took from my olympus got published in the national newspaper. I don't know how it happened when for me it was just like hitting an arrow in the dark.

I would really appreciate it if someone here can guide me with the camera settings. Seriously I really don't have any idea about it, I've been reading a lot but still confused what they mean

I found one of the best, and simplest books that helped me, is "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. Reading ir got me off auto, into manual.
I don't know where you live, but here my library has a copy.
