Is a handy lens that work well with any E-Serie Olympus camera, I use with E-410, E-510 and E-30
These sites don't seem to work... but this will probably be the next digital lens I get. I've kind of been on an OM lens buying spree (I now have 3).

Looking good. I have found that i get the best results when I shoot without the image stabilization when available light allows.

it's an awesome lens. if you can't do the 50-200, the 70-300 is awesome. not great for indoors unless you can provide enough light. i'm attaching a photo i took last night with my 70-300 that's on ebay. i only used an external flash with this photo, more light could have been used, but it did well with just my flash indoors. i'm only selling it because my 50-200 arrives tomorrow, but it's a great lens for the money. i say buy it. coupled with the e620, hand holding it is A LOT easier than it was with my 520.

Default New camera Olympus E PL1

I am new & do not fully understand the details of taking pics. I would like to get a better lens that will shoot closer & sports shots ( my son is playing football & i would like to be able to get some up close shots) than what the lens that came with camera. Looking at the 70-300mm lens. I could use any advise for a newbee. I have a pocket cannon that does great but i want to branch out some what. Thanks..Kristie

The 70-300mm is great, but the focus does tend to hunt a bit. If you are going to use it for sports the lighting would need to be pretty good and you would probably be better off getting proficient at manual focus. Anyone else feel free to chime in on what a better lens might be.

I noticed that you own an Olympus EPL1... The 70-300mm lens will be hard to handle on this smaller body. In addition, even though the 70-300 is a 4/3 mount, the EPL1 is a micro 4/3 lens. This means that in addition to picking up the 70-300mm lens, you will also need to pick up a mmf1 adapter that allows the lens to be mounted onto the EPL1.

The longer reach that you get from this lens is great when there is enough light, and the higher ISO on the EPL1 can help with that as well, but because of the smaller body, you will have to hold the camera quite differently in order to get the hand held shots you want. Also, because of the autofocus speed of the lens, you might miss quite a few shots still if you are planning on using it to capture closeups of kids running around on a football field as they'll be in and out of focus quite a bit. If you do go with the lens, I would highly recommend that you also pick up a monopod to help steady the camera so you can fiddle with the focus manually and worry about watching and anticipating action rather than holding the camera steady. Even with IS, the longer reach of this lens makes it a little bit different from the kit lens that you are used to using and hand holding with a smaller body can be a little tough at times.

Hope that helps...

It's alright for a long zoom, but if you're really intent on doing macro, I highly suggest getting a dedicated macro lens. My Sigma 105mm Macro lens is absolutely my baby. I have to force myself to use the zoom
