Unhappy Anyone else notice lack of sharpness with E410?

I've had my E-410 for almost 2 years now [it's my first dSLR]. I haven't purchased any new lenses for it, so I've been using the two kit lenses it came with.

I've noticed over the 2 years how difficult it is to get a sharp picture. Almost EVERY photo that it takes has a slight "smudged" look to it. At first I thought it was me, as I tend to have shaky hands, but even after using a tripod and remote shutter, they STILL came out smudgy. Yesterday I was shooting in direct sun at 70mm and they all came out blurry. Has anyone else had this problem?

A friend of mine has been using a Canon Xsi with kit lenses and his images come out crystal clear compared to mine. Has anyone had experience with both of these cameras to make a comparison for me?

I had the same problem with my 510 until I cleaned my lens (it was dusty as hell). Check if the lens is clean. On my e510, the pictures are every bit as sharp as my friend's 40d, so I doubt it is the camera.

Oh, and I only have the 14-42 kit lens, so I can't comment on your shot on the 70mm lens.

I am using my E-410 with the 14-42 kitlens for two years just like you, and its my first DSLR. =)

I think the E-410 sucks pretty much. I bought the camera because of my budget and because I didn't know better.

I only got blurry images at night (low-light) but I still feel your pain. The camera is really stupid. For its settings, for its speed (its soo slow) and for the flash. Everytime I deselected the flash, it would still pop up. Even by using high ISO's it just wouldn't listen to me. It would flash 20 times before a shot was taken.

I don't think the problem was in the lens. Or maybe its just me.
I hate the camera so I'm getting rid of the thing. =)

Canon is the new thing for me.

Post examples with EXIF, maybe? A lot of different things can cause blur: bad handholding technique, too slow a shutter speed, misfocus, etc. etc. If you're sure none of that is an issue, maybe the stabilization isn't working correctly?

most likely to be a case of lack of Image Stabilizer for E-420...
also, olympus cameras can't see well in the dark...

I have used my E410 for 2-3 years, and not noticed the problem. The only thing I would consider is getting a better zuiko lens.(from the many offered) I often use manual focus if you get used to it , it takes no time.
All in all I like the camera.

Default Yes!

I actually thought that there was something wrong with the camera but after I bought a manual prime lens and forced myself to learn manual focus, my photos have been much sharper. I now use C-AF[MF} with my kit lenses and never trust the camera's AF feature.

Does the 410 have liveview? On my 520 the pictures would be blurry on the computer when I used the viewfinder and af. When I used liveview amd af the pictures were always sharp and in focus. I sent the camera in to Olympus and they performed a camera focus and shutter adjustment. I should have it back Monday. I hope this fixes it, because I bought the camera in May and it has been pretty useless because of this.

Yes, it has liveview. I actually was having the same problem until i hooked it up to the computer and went back and forth from camera control to computer control while adjusting the diopter to match what I was seeing with what the computer was shooting.
