Talking Just bought an Olympus E420

I'm so excited!

In 2 weeks, I'm starting a course at TAFE called "Introduction to the photography industry". I didnn't want to start the course with the Kodak bridge camera that I had (although it was a good little camera). So yesterday, I bought an Olympus E420. I haven't even played with it yet. I was charging the battery overnight!

This is my first DSLR and I have to say that it was this forum that inspired me to step it up

Hi there Tina and welcome!

Congratulations on picking up the e420. I think you're going to find that it's a very good camera all bundled into a tiny little body

Congrats! I have has my E410 for 2 years and love it! I am thinking about a new body in the next year or so and am not sure about which way to go. The size of the E410 & E420 are perfect for me.

I don't have many complaints about mine. Feel free to check out my photostream to see pictures I've taken with it.

The e-420 is the smallest body out of the e-520, e-620, e-30 and e-3. As such, people with big hands might find the grip small, and it doesn't have image stabilization. So, be sure to try out the camera at a local camera store and see how it sits in your hand. As for IS, it is important if you are planning on taking lots shots in low light situations or planning on the future to really push the camera in that respect. If that is the case, IS helps as it gives you a stop or two more. IS does not eliminate blurry pictures due to poor handling techniques or moving subjects - it just provides a stop or two more then you might otherwise have.

As a starting dSLR, the e420 is a good learning camera and comes with good kit lenses.

Hope that helps.
