What’s Your Preference?

While I have always been a Nikon Camera owner, I purchased a Olympus point and shoot camera last year and have used it extensively for travel. It is an SP 500 UZ wich has a 10 power zoom, an electronic viewfinder and can also shoot RAW. It is 6 MP. I have taken some pretty good pictures with it, although it will never replace my Nikon. I like it becase it is small and powerful and didn't cost a fortune.

I also have an Olympus SP500UZ and I think it is classed as a sports and underwater camera. I was using it for point and shoot and I finally printed out the advanced manual for it (at work as it is 189 pages) and started reading it. It really is a great little camera, I also have taken some great shots with it (I also have a Nikon), I have just ordered the teleconverter lens for it (TCON 17, which by the way do not get at a camera shop as it is way to expensive, I ordered mine through Harvey Norman and it was half the price), so I am quite excited to try it. From reading the manual, this little camera can do quite a bit of what the Nikon can do. Just love it!!

Used under the right conditions, you can take some fairly nice pictures with it. RAW performance is very slow, but at least it is there. Most cameras in its price range can't even shoot RAW. I find it noisy in low light, but I most like the fact that it is very small with lots of manual control. I have not bought any accessory lenses for it, but did purchase the conversion tube you need to use with any accessories from converter lenses to filters. I wanted to use a 55 mm polarizer with it and needed the tube for that. You can see some of the range of pictures I have been able to take with it while traveling here:

So while I prefer my Nikon for quality and speed, the Olympus gives me a nice range with the 10x zoom, takes decent pictures, has many advanced features, doesn't break the bank to own and is extremely portable.

I was just thinking about getting myself this SP-550 UZ. One question though... How fast does it fired up to take a picture? I've had an Olympus once and it was just so slow!

i have an olympus sp 320 and it doesn't take long at all to capture a shot. was your olympus an older one?
