Talking Is It Worth It

I had seriously considered the Olympus SP-590UZ, but when i inquired about the price here in Canada at $599.99, as apposed to the $449 US I just dont know. All That before taxes. Is it worth it.
Another camera I am considering is the Nikon Coolpix P90, similar to the 590 but far cheeper, and with almost the same features.($399.)
Any Comments appreciated.
Richard.

It does indeed seem like a lot of money to pay for a Point and Shoot camera. I agree with the other replies, that a Digital SLR camera (with bigger and better sensor) would be a best buy in the $500 range.

In Canada, Futureshop.ca has the older (and perhaps better) Olympus E-410 with 2 lenses on sale for $399+taxes. With it's standard lens, this is a small-ish camera, and it comes with a second longer range lens.

No it will not match the crazy 'zoom' on the SP-590UZ, but will make taking pictures easier/faster and have better image quality.

If your set on the Point and Shoot route, make sure your shooting at the lowest ISO (50,80 or 100) and turn off any AutoISO functions for best performance. Also concider both the Olympus and Nikon P&S cameras will do very poorly with autofocus in low light situations.

If it's not to late, I would recommend a DSLR new or used body. And then you can buy a used lens to get started.

I bought my E-520 used at a great price and it only had 358 clicks on it....the guy was so impressed with Olympus he wanted to sell the E-520 and buy the E-30.

Hi, I have been reading your posts and I am quite happy that I am not alone when I say I am a olympus fan. It started with my father in the late 40s and the camera is still with my father. My p&s is a olympus and now my first DSLR is olympus510. I am a novice when it comes to DSLR but nevertheless been trying it out and learned a few things. I feel photography is a beautiful and colorful journey and one needs to keep eyes open.
