Default Settings for the SP-550UZ

Sorry another question now.

I have the SP-550UZ model and I love it! I am just wondering if someone can recommend a "standard" setting combo for shooting great pictures. I'm not really sure what all of the S,A,P modes are as I am really new to this photography thing.

Also, is this camera good enough to do some "professional shots"? Some of family want me to do photos of them, b/c of some that I took of my kids. Plus some others of a wedding that I took (just as a guest).

I see that there are a couple of lenses that can be purchased for the camera (from the olympus website) are these worth it? Does anyone else have them? What's the advantage?

Thanks so much for helping me out I really do appreciate it!!!!

Becky

Default Better late than never...

Becky,
I just picked this marvelous camera up about 3 weeks ago. I'm taking an online course in photography so I can learn SOME of what I can do with it. I, too, am a relative novice and had absolutely no idea what all the PASM stuff was. I was stuck in "Auto".

It would behoove you to check out a couple of books that would help you out with it (I read one by Bryan Peterson - "Exposure" that helped me immensely).

It's not as difficult as it sounds once you get into it and this camera makes it even easier. Just don't let it intimidate you.

One link that I've recommended to several folks that I think will help you see the relationship between ISO, aperture and shutter speed is

http://dryreading.com/camera/index.html

Play with it a while and you'll readily see the relationship and how they work in your camera. Then, go play!

Hope this helps and isn't too late.

Only you can answer the question about the camera or you being suitable for wedding photos. If it were me... I'd say the camera - yes. Me? uh uh.... not yet
