Exclamation Need Tutor for Olympus e510!!

Hello! I just got my first camera, w/c is the olympus e510. I'm new to this whole photography thing and I kind of lost my manual guide which made things more difficult for me. I've read some Basic photography tips, about the ISO, aperture and Shutter speed (which were really great by the way), still I'm having problems understanding my camera. I can't quite figure out how to change the aperture and DOF. I'm totally confused.

I'm guessing it would be better if I ask those which have the same camera as mine.

So I was hoping you guys can teach me techniques and stuffs.

Hey there, welcome to DPS... I am a Canon user and would have trouble trying to describe to you how to use your Olympus, but I'm sure someone will be able to help out!

Meanwhile, A book I've been reading, The Digital Photography Companion might be a good one for you to have a look at. It's a great starting point for anyone.

Hope this helps,
Sime

I appreciate it. I'm from asia though, I'm not sure if the book you were reffering to is available here. But I will try to find it anyway.

Thanks!

If you go to the Olympus site you can download another manual. The site is very helpful. Or if you google your camera you will find all kinds of sites that offer you help.
There is even a Yahoo group dedicated to Olympus users

All of the basic funtions of the camera are almost (or exactly) the same as with every other DSLR out there. Therefore when people are talking about Nikon or Canon you can almost always use exactly the same. For example the modes on the dial are all common.

Auto = Well auto - click away
P = Program - Like auto - click away with extra funtions
A = Aperture priority - Set the aperture and the camera will fix the shutter speed and ISO - Use this to control DoF
S = Shutter priority - Fix the shutter and the camera will pick the aperture and ISO - Use this if you want to freeze or blur motion or want to handhold in low light
M = Manual - Control everything yourself - Only use this if you undertand why the settings the Auto modes are suggesting will not give the result that you want.

Hope this helps

DOF is not something that you change by itself, it is something you achieve through your aperture setting.

For the E-510, to change it in M mode, you hold down the +/- button near the shutter button, while turning the dial above the Fn and [- - -] button.

Something that every E-510 user should read through is:
http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e510-fs.html

That article goes into depth about the E-510's Noise Filter and Noise Reduction that will help you take better shots, once you understand how they work in the 510.

I've had mine for nearly a year now, and if you need more help don't hesitate to ask.

As Windrider mentioned, they have all the manuals online at the Olympus site for download in pdf form, or you can order a new one for a minimal cost. I believe ebay might have one from time to time as well if you look hard enough!

If you go to olympus.com and find your camera there, you can download a pdf version of your camera. Then you can print it out and put it in a 3 ring binder. I felt that was easier than reading the pdf file on the computer. I thought I had done the same thing, lost my camera instructions. Then later I did find mine after I printed it all out.
And just read the blog here on DPS pertaining to aperture, shutter speed etc, and it will give you a good understanding of photography. Or of course you can google these as well.

Hope this helps....
