new kid for dslr family. guide me.

hi thanks the DPS and family for my acceptance.
I am new to photography.
I had used Minolta dimage Z1 about 3 yrs.
Now i had purchased Olympus evolt E-500 body to start with digi.photo.
I am Not familier which lens should i have to buy. i am so confused with parameters like 18mm-40mm/18mm-150mm/18mm-300mm eqi to 35mm etc.
pls guide me.
my intance to do general photography for personal interest only.

This guide to choosing a dSLR lens will give you the basics on what all the numbers mean. Pay particular attention to the sections on focal length and maximum aperture. It'll start to make sense after a while.
