I've been disappointed with some of my outdoor shots when, despite bright sun, the blues and greens are dull - I've mostly used the Landscape scene setting. Is my only option to use the Vivid setting?

epinions has a good review on the 410. The reviewer finds the camera under exposes when set to Auto or "P". The combination of the kit lenses and maximum ISO result in dull colors.
Quick fix: Increase exposure value (which I believe you can do in any of the cameras settings except in "scene"), turn bracketing on and shoot in RAW. |

Well, high-noon sun always washes out colours. Or did you mean you were shooting at dawn/dusk with bright dawn/dusk sun? Also, most DLSRs will be pretty conservative in the in-camera processing at default settings because there's an assumption that you'll be doing the post processing yourself. If you don't want to develop your own negatives, so to speak, just increase your saturation and contrast settings and shoot JPEGs (though RAW + PP will always yield better results).
Sample images would make diagnosing the problem infinitely easier.

awataha-
I went and took some pictures and saw what you meant by dull. Scratch my last answer. I'm going to assume you use the LCD to compose your picture (please correct me if I'm wrong.) You're going to want to press the button that switches from LCD to the veiwfinder (looks loke a tv screen) then, press the info button. You'll keep pressing until you get this screen. ![]() I have the saturation function highlighted. Next to it is gradiation tool. And below that is the color management tool. (AdobeRGB and sRGB are the choices) You can fiddle arround with buttons until you find the color you like. Let me know how it turns out. |
