Default E510 lens shadow

I have only had my E-510 a few months, but I have noticed when using the flash, if I am zoomed in using either of my 2 kit lenses, they prodice a lens shadow on the subject.

Does anyone else experience this problem? I am at work, otherwise I would poast a sample shot to show you what I mean.

Hey there,

This is a problem with most pop-up flashes on dslr's... not just the e510s. It's definitely annoying... but seeing how that pop-up flash is so harsh most of the time... I can't say that I've found many good uses for it. I'd suggest picking up a FL-36 or FL-50 to replace that pop-up

Add this to the long list of "Reasons not to use the pop-up flash", right behind "washed out foreground," "underexposed background" and "incredibly harsh shadows."

The pop-up flash is essentially useless for anything but fill flash in bright sunlight. Get yourself a real flash unit if you want to do the strobe-thing (which is great).

Make sure that the lens hoods are removed from the lens. I had this problem of a half moon shadow in my images until I realized that lens hood was creating the shadow.

Good Luck

Default Olympus lens hood

You are right,

I have encountered this problem several times, with an olympus 14-42mm at 14mm.
Do not use the build in flash!!

Thanks for the info.
