Unhappy Olympus.

Whenever I see photos that people have posted online, I have never, up to now, seen any taken with an Olympus DSLR. Why is that?
I have an Olympus E420 DSLR, I am very new to any type of photography so, is there anyone out there who has the same model or similar? Can you give any tips?
I am so lost here.

I Don`t have an E420 - and I`m not sure how simmilar my model is, but I also shoot with an olympus from time to time, I have an Ep-1

I can`t give specific tips for your camera, but -
Don`t worry that it`s not a canon or nikon - You can still get excellent images and have lots of options for glass.

Make sure you learn your manual - menu`s and what your camera can do.

Learning raw is quite useful I think, though olympus tends to get color very right. If you shoot jpg, just be careful with your white balance and exposure.

If anything, just get out there and shoot shoot shoot.

Don`t be lost. - All of the basics still apply - so learning about Iso / aperture / shutter speed - and all the things discussed in the forums here apply.

Well, you are posting in the right place for Olympus users here

But if you're looking for more Olympus users, check out the groups on Flickr, like:
Flickr: Olympus E-420 Users
Flickr: Olympus E-420
Flickr: Olympus EVOLT E-400, E-410 & E-420 Users

I'm a big fan of the camera specific groups on Flickr.

The basics of photography are not brand specific. Cameras are simply tools for the photographer just as a hammer is a hammer.. does not matter if it says "craftsman", "black and decker" or "kobalt". Sure, there are some tools that will help you do your job easier.. but still, more important that you learn photography than brand loyalty.

I will post a few resources a little later.. getting ready for work right now.

i have 3 olympus bodies and will probably stay with olympus forever. they work for me.

i hang out with other olympians here

Four Thirds User discussion forum

olympus is not a big name when it comes to cameras like canon and nikon, often overlooked, which is fine by me. some people are really into having the name brand cameras - i get it - but even then sometimes their skill does not match up to their brand.

it would be nice to see olympus in the running with the big boys, but they're not. i get over it by making a killer photo and then telling people i shot it with an olympus.

There are a lot of Olympus users out there. Agree not as popular a s the "big 2" but I like mine for many reasons. Try looking at the Olympus web site.

Maybe you just haven't looked in the right places for digital photos by Olympus users.
