Cheers Douglas, I have looked (briefly) at the Olympus site, but it looks more geared to getting you to purchase more goods from them than actually giving advice to beginners.

Thanks NaturalWoman, thanks for your advice. It sure sounds like you enjoy your cameras, maybe I am being just too naive about the brand name, just because it's not a Nikon or Canon.
It looks like I have a long road ahead of me being a complete beginner. But I will give it a go.

I also use Olympus and have a few different bodies. For me, I will never change! There are a few differences between them but for the most part are pretty close to being the same.
Once you get used to it, you'll love it. The trick is to get out there and practice. Try setting up your camera on a tripod or something sturdy. Take the same photo over and over but each time play with the settings and take not of what each one does. That will help you get acquainted with all the different settings. It takes time, be patient!

i have the 420, and i must say that i love it and hate it, but im just figuring that its mostly me, not my camera. i too am still learning and im almost positive that my e420 has so much more to offer than i am seeing. Heck im still shoot in auto mode. get to know your camera first. I was real quick to judge my camera bc it wasnt a nikon or a canon. though i like the canons i still find it hard to part with my olympus. ive been told to read the manuals but i cant just sit a read, just take your camera out and play with it, i am FAAARR from professional, im just giving you ideas from my experience. Ive had my olympus for 3 years now and im still learning things about it. I just take it outside and shoot random things with it and play around with the settings, my only problem is, when i do that i forget what settings they were lol..now i carry a little notebook around! hope that helps!
