Question My Camera's Aperture..

Hello to anyone who could provide me with a little insight into my dilemma.

Today I was out on a photoshoot. I was helping a friend out. I was shooting in there basement. Well half way through the shoot, my aperature "stopped" working.. I can no longer adjust it on my camera (in any mode). I do not know if I have accidently disabled it, or if it stopped working. I know that i can adjust my shutter speed just fine.

The pictures did turn out really nicely though in the end, but I would like to get this fixed as soon as possible.

My camera did not drop, it was either around my neck or on the tri-pod. I have also reset my camera back to factory setting and that did not work.

Any help would greatly be appreciated, as I need to get back to work.

Danny

take the lens off, put it back on... properly.. and see what it does then.

which lens is it? what camera is it?

it might be possible if the lens has an aperture ring, the tab on the aperture ring may have been bumped.

I have two lenses. They are the ones that came with a kit... but the lens in question is : 14 - 45 mm, F3.5-5.6 Zuiko Digital Lens.

Last night I put on my telephoto lens and it worked fine.

My camera is Olympus E500

most likely a electronic failure on the connectors. Give them a wipe.
Did the AF work?

About half way through the shoot, my friend and I had to adjust the lighting in the basement. I left my camera on the tripod, for about 5 minutes and it was left on. When I got back to start shooting I noticed that some of the setting on the camera was changed.

When you go into the "advanced menu" in the Manual mode, I noticed that the Red balanced increased from plus or minus 0 to +2. That the contrast was increased from plus or minus 0 to +2 and the Sharpness was decreased to -1.

By the way, the only people in the studio/basement, my friend and I were the only people who were there. So no one had access to my camera - except for me, but we were setting up the new lighting.

AF? Auto Focus... no that did not work. None of the "Focuses" worked (Continuous, Auto, Manual...ect)

All pictures were taken in colour.

Have you tried cleaning the lens's contacts? Using a clean pencil eraser should work.

I had the same issue with a recent shoot - took it to the local camera shop, where they wiped off the metal contacts on the lens (my nearly-new 70-150mm zoom that hardly has any use) & the camera (e500), hooked it back up, and it was working fine. It wasn't just the aperture not registering, but the lens wouldn't focus, either.

I found it kind of odd, though, that it was that sensitive: my Sigma 105mm EX DG Macro lens has been through a ton of (ab)use in the last couple of years, and I've never had a problem, whereas the Olympus 70-150mm lens has hardly ever been used but needed to be cleaned.
