Question RAW vs. JPEG?

hey guys,

i'm not completely new at photography, however i dont understand the differences between RAW and JPEG. how does one file type make a difference over the other, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each, and when is the most appropriate time to use them?

Read the tutorial and if that doesn't help do a search on the forum. This has been so overly discussed that it is almost absurd.
