Default Brand New Nikon D90 Blinking Green Access Light when turned off.

brand new second day on a shoot when i noticed whilst turned off the memory card access light keeps blinking and making a synchronous sound,

the D70 which i googled the problem had a production fault, but rare anyone has had same problem with D90.

i have a 32Gbit memory card, i have tried restting but makes no difference. camera still seems to function, however the battery drains overnight.

any help please?

Does it write to the memory card ok? I don't have the funds to own a 32GB card, so I don't know if the D90 works well with them or not.

Second, have you formatted the card with the camera? If not, get any pics you may have on the card onto your computer, and reformat the card. Just hold down the 2 buttons that have the red 'Format' next to them until the top display blinks 'FOR', then press the same buttons again. That will erase anything on the card and start over with just the folder structure Nikon uses. You should format the card like this every time you dump the pictures to a computer, it will lessen chances of data corruption.

Does it do this forever, or does it stop after a while. Maybe it is just delayed writing. I know mine stay on for a second or two after I turn the camera off.

thanks guys, I bought a new memory, 16gig, once in the camera it still flashed but in a different sequence, i have previously formatted the card using the menu, not the 2 red buttons.

The card fromatted correctly, but still flashed when off until i put it back on a took a picture.

all seems fine now!!!!

great stuff i only hope it stays like this.

Problm could have been not wrting to the memory card correcltly and since its a computer managed to get confused?

It sounds like the lock switch on the memory card is in the locked position.

Did you check the card lock switch position.

Edit: nope, tried that on a D90 and didn't get a blinking write light.

Nikon has only approved 2 brands of 32GB cards for the D90: Toshiba and Panasonic.

Pray tell, why a 32 GB card? I shudder to think how I would feel if I lost or had a 4 GB card malfunction resulting in unrecoverable images/video, let alone 8 times that.

I much prefer carrying multiple cards and switching as needed

My Friend, Dont think it's fixed! Same happened with me.
It's a deadly common problem of D90 (Dont know about the D300).
Fixation:
Simply go to the DSLR repair shop or Nikon service center and ask them to change the main power circuit board of the camera. Will take about $100 if the board available.
Reason of issue:
The power control IC get short and feedback the battery power to the battery causing the draining out and other problem like the top LCD back lamp turned ON after turning on the camera.
Careful:
To avoid this issue in future, after full charge of the battery, do not put it in the camera right then. Wait for the battery to cool down for 5-10 min and then put it in. With the full charge, the battery hold high ampere for a short time. It could damage the power distributor IC suddenly if you put it in the camera right after a full charge.
Best, Leo
