On my D40, as I scroll through the playback of photos, the screen goes black and says "This file does not contain image data". That screen takes the place of something because the image before with be numbered 8/172 then I click and get that screen, then I click and that photo is 10/172. So whatever file that is, is taking the place of file 9/172. Anyone else have this problem or know what it could be caused by? Thanks

It's a corrupt image. Can happen if the camera was switched off before recording completed or errant buffer overrun etc.
The most likely cause would be not formatting the card before each use.
