If you bothered to read anything, the D900 is rumoured to be the replacement for the D700 (think 16-18mp sensor with video, likely nothing else changed). It's supposed to share the body with the 300/700.
The D90 is only a year old: Nikon cycles aren't THAT short. What most (Nikon Rumors) sites are reporting is that the D90 segment will die off after the D90 and we'll be left with the D3000 segment, D5000 segment and D300/s segment for DX. There are also rumours that the D5000 will be replaced this month or next month with a D7000. That isn't happening. It's barely been 9 months since the 5000. These are, as usual, RUMORS. I doubt much of this will come through. I think the D700 replacement will be either a D700x/s or a D800, depending on where they go with it.

I would bet that the D900 will be here soon as there have been a lot of people selling of D700's at Fred Miranda and Craigslist lately - they are probably trying to get max dollar now before the new model comes out.

A D900 is more likely to be a successor to the D700, than to the D90. However, there were plenty of rumors about a D400 that died as soon as the D300s was announced. I wouldn't waste too much time worrying about it. If you need a new camera, go get one that's available now, if you don't need a new camera go make pictures with what you have.
