Default Already ready for another lens! :)

Im saving up money for another lens.

I thinking either the nikkor 35mm f/1.8 or

50mm f/1.8

What would you suggest. They are both fairly cheap.

Is there a place on this site where people are selling their used gear?

What model camera do you have? I'm also a noob and wanting the 50mm f/1.8, but it doesnt Auto Focus on my camera. So I'm going with the 35mm. Also here is the section of the forums you're looking for... Gear For Sale

What types of subjects do you like to shoot? Do you take photos indoors or out? And the type of camera body you have could dictate whether or not the 50mm will auto-focus or not.

There is a buy sell forum here, but it does not get a lot of activity. Check your local craigslist or Fred Miranda dot com.

I have the Nikon D3000 as well. So looks like the 35mm is the one..

I will probably be doing more outdoor then indoor.

FYI, there is a 50mm AF-S lens (meaning it will autofocus on the D40(x)/D60/D3000) - Nikon | Imaging Products | AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G

It is a wee bit more expensive but, on the bright side, it does open up to f/1.4

The question I have--as I've been looking at this lens--is whether it's worth it to go for the f1.4 version of this over the f1.8 version as the f1.8 version is significantly cheaper. I'm not a pro or anything so I'm not sure it's worth spending the extra bucks for what I do.

Based on another post I read, I think you have (or will have in a near future) a D5000. The 50mm f1.8 will not autofocus on this body, so you have only 1 choice if you want a 50mm that auto-focus.

I would only look at the 50mm f1.4 if you have a need for it, or you want 50mm over 35mm and you want to auto-focus. I would spend the difference on a good flash or a good tripod. I would never trade my 35mm f1.8 with my Manfrotto tripod for the 50mm f1.4 but that's based on the type of photography I'm doing.
