Do I Have the Right Camera

I have a Nikon D80 with the standard 18-135mm lens. Before I purchase new lenses and a flash attachment, I wanted everyone's opinion on whether this is a "good enough" camera to use as a starting point. What do you think?

Almost any camera is "good enough" and a D80 is more than good enough.
Heck, I frequently "downgrade" from my D3/D300 bodies to my G10.

Most lens / flash will fit if you ever change you body so you wont waste your money.

Question is, do YOU feel your camera is good enough ? What are the features you feel you are missing with your current body ?


I'm tend to recommend to improve your kit rather than your body. It give you more options / allow you more types of photography.

Remember it was not that many "months" ago that the D80 was state of the art. It is still a very good camera.

It's a great starting point. And it's part of a great big system of lenses and attachments. It has an AF motor on the body so it could use older Nikon AF lenses unlike the new D40, D3000, D5000 etc which could only AF on new AF-S lenses... Nikons and Canons have an extensive array of component systems to match where your creativity will take you. All the best!
