Red face Nikon D3000 or Canon EOS 1000D (Rebel XS)

Hey,

I've got a decision to make and I was wondering what you guys thought about this. Should I get a Canon EOS 1000D (Rebel XS) or the Nikon D3000? They are around a similar price to me with the kit lens, but I really cannot spend the extra for the D5000 or 450D (Rebel XSi or XT1, I don't know). I'm mainly looking for a camera for 'life' photography, landscapes and buildings. I'm not too interested in macro, sports or high-speed but I want good image quality (can you compare the kit lens quality?). If you've got any ideas please post here - thanks

(Note: If this is in the wrong forum, sorry I'm new here!)

I went to buy the Canon Rebel XS with IS lens today, at the store I spot the Nikon D3000, I am well aware that the kit lens are made with plastic and look cheap. The sales girl say I should feel operating the lens myself, I can tell you there is huge different and I took the Nikon home..... The lens for Nikon is more expensive for beginners. The Nikon D3000 is still in the box but I know I will not regret for my decision.

they are very comparable and will both take great pictures... the main difference is how it fits in your hand and how the buttons and menus are arranged, both of which are more personal preference than anything else. go to a store and hold both of them and navigate through the menus and see which one you would rather use.

i personally prefer the feel and setup of the canons, but you may like the way the nikon feel better...

I did some research a couple months ago because I was about to buy my first DSLR camera, and finally I went with the Nikon D3000 mainly because of this reasons:

1. Newest model from Nikon
2. "Guide" mode, this is very useful when you are new to DSLR, because helps to understand the main functions and features of the SLRs.
3. Technically I was atracted to the Nikon because the 11-point AF system, metering system, Autofocus modes, ISO capabilities and on camera photo edition.
4. Body construction and Lens kit better quality feeling.

I think this are the main differences/advantages versus the Canon XS, not to mention the Canon model was released on 2008.

I am very satisfied with the D3000.

Good luck with your purchase.
