I recieved my Nikon D40 last year for Christmas, and have enjoyed it for the most part. I have noticed that some pictures taken have a blue line in them in the lower right corner. At first I just chocked this up to a possible dirty lens, but after recieving a new lens for Christmas this year, I am still having the problem leading me to believe it is indeed a problem with the camera. I am asking for some ideas on what could be causing this. Could it be the sensor? Something more serious?
There is no longer a local camera shop in my town, so I would have to ship the camera off to have anything whatsoever done to it. I would like to make sure I am not going to waste my time and money. I have included a picture to give you an idea of what I am referring to. Both sooc and a cropped close up of the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ![]()

I'm afraid this looks like a sensor failure to me, something which is not uncommon with D40s. You might like to google for other examples.
I think my Nikon D40 has a sensor defect « Josh Bancroft's TinyScreenfuls.com It seems that Nikon have been repairing these under warranty, but that of course relies on you still being in warranty. I'd suggest you give Nikon a call and describe your problem, if you're only just out of warranty, they might do a fix for free?

Do all your pictures show this, in the same spot?

It doesn't appear on all pictures. I can't figure out the common denominator on what is causing it to appear only on certain pictures. (Focal Length, Aperture, ISO etc.) The closest I can come to seeing a pattern is it seems to appear most with ISO 800-1600, although it does show up on ISO 400 just not as frequently.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to send it to Nikon. Or maybe I'll just sweet talk the husband into buying me the D90... Thanks for your help. |
