Default D5000 Manual Mode :: Locking Shutter Speed

Hello

Can any D5000 user advise please? Just a small niggle.
In manual mode, studio setting, studio flash.
I just want to keep my aperture and speed set the same - easy enough BUT I am either knocking the wheel (I can't see that I am) OR its changing itself the shutter speed.
EG 1/200 will change to 1/400 or higher between shots. Any way I can lock on ? It's curtains otherwise (sorry!).
Thanks in advance.

If youre in manual mode, it shouldnt be changing anything.

i have the same problem. i am deftinetly NOT knocking the shutter spped control, rather it appears that the camera is setting the speed to WHAT it thinks it should be using..
