What the title says?

UV filters come in a wide variety of qualities. You can get an ultra-cheap no-name $20 one from many camera stores, or you can pay $100+ for high quality super-multi-coated shatter-resistant ones from brand names.

Personally, when I use a UV filter (it's not really that useful to have one), I go with a $30-ish one. If you go too cheap, there will be optical problems which cause problems with your images. Expensive just doesn't make sense.

Your 18-55 lens takes 52mm filters. You can find this out by looking at the base of the lens. There is a "o52" (where the o has a slash through it) at the bottom. Most lenses have something like this.

The best UV filter is the one you bever buy in the first place.

They cause more problems than they solve when put on the front of a lens.

And they don't 'protect' very well, often causing more damage than if they'd not been there in the first place.
