Default tamron 28-75mm f2.8

hello

would like to ask if anybody can comment on the tamron 28-75mm f2.8?

the constant f2.8 aperture is really a big plus

thanks

mike

I have that lens and use it quite frequently ! I find that it performs consistently. Soft focus isn't a problem . Overall I find it to be a decent lens

hello

thanks for the feedback.

i was really aiming for the 18-200, but due to budget constraints, ill be settling for the kit lens (bought the body only).. then i came across this lens.. checked out some reviews.

im just wondering if the advantages of the constant aperture tops over the VR of the 18-105.. the extreme ends range of the lens is also a factor.

is the 28mm wide enough for normal group shots?

thanks

mike

I'm guessing, for the most part, 28mm should be wide enough depending on the situation.

A constant f2.8 is a big plus. I may have to take a look at this lens as well.

hello

they say that this lens is for full frame, so that means that the focal length indicated has to be multiplied by 1.5 right.. so that means the 28mm will be 42mm in 35mm equivalent?

how about the other lenses? are the indicated focal lengths the actual values? or still have to multiply by the crop factor? thanks

another one.. my other option is the nikkor 18-105mm VR.. say both are at 75mm..which would be better in terms of steadyness of the shot, the VR or having constant aperture (assuming same conditions for both)

thanks

im kinda geared now on getting the tamron glass.. hehe

Overall that sounds like a great lens!
I use a Tokina AT-X pro version and love it.

regardless of the lens, you have to multiply to get the "effective focal length" FOV captured with a crop sensor. Even if it's a lens made for crop sensors only.

Saw some examples posted over at DPReview. I wasn't impressed. Heavy CA, low sharpness across the frame.

Generally yes. A 28mm would be considered "wide" even on a crop sensor..But "suitable" is much more situational...
