Default Best tripod for D90+ 300mm lens

Hi, just wondering what other D90 users are choosing for a tripod. I had a look recently and can't believe you can pay that much. Budget for a light one that will last is around £300 (needs to include head, legs and whatever else they have!)

Thanks,

Well, the D90/70-300 isn't super heavy, but whether or not you'll be getting bigger lenses will dictate how much overkill you'll want on the tripod. I have an Induro A214/Manfrotto 486RC2 combo which works pretty well with all of my gear, including the battery grip. So something like that will have plenty of capacity for you to grow into, and will be rock solid. The compromise is weight. It's not a heavy combo, but it isn't CF-light either. Carbon fiber legs will cost you a pretty penny, but they're light and stable.

The old mantra is light, stable, cheap; pick two.

Check out Calumet Photo. They have a shop in the UK. I have their 7500 tripod and their quick grip action head. I am very happy with it and it wasn't too expensive ~$200us.
They have the Manfrattos and Induros that jdepould mentions there as well...

I just got the (out of stock) Dolica AX620B100 62-Inch Proline Tripod with Ball Head for Christmas and I love it. If your an amateur like me you won't need the more expensive Manfrotto tripods. The Dolica is a solid piece of equipment (not cheap like vista explorer or sunpak tripods) yet is light weight and includes carrying case. It has a quick release plate and runs 41.33 GBP. I know its much cheaper than your price range but I'm very impressed with the quality...

My sentiments exactly. Also received it for Christmas for my D90 and it was a pleasant surprise. Feels very sturdy and well made while also being fairly light. The quick release is a superb feature as well as the ball head and built in level.

Do you think the Dolica tripod would be sturdy enough for a Canon 7D camera + lens and flash?

I just got this Benro tripod, and have a D90 and use the 70-300mm. Works like a charm and holds up to 4kg. For $20 US more, you can get a Benro model that holds 6 kg.

I love this tripod.
