Default Nikon BOO BOO?

Anybody from Nikon labs out there? You have a glitch that needs to be fixed!
I asked for help from many many camera forums and NO ONE can solve the problem!
The problem is from the NIkon D5000 camera ( I don't know if there are other models) and it is this: The technical read outs (not the images, but the aperture, shutter speed, etc) readings will by default turn into portrait mode if the camera is tilted just slightly! You cannot turn OFF this annoying mode by the camera! I wonder if other cameras are also plagued with this BOO BOO by Nikon...
Any help (even from Nikon) will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers ya all

What I meant was to be able to turn OFF the readings from going portrait automatically. I just want it as it is. Example: when lying down on your back to take the worms eye view shots of models, a light plane doing a bank turn, stooping over the rails of a boat, etc., the readings go crazy flip over to portrait...

I don't follow.

Are you saying you have some type of mode that displays no photo and only EXIF info? And that this EXIF info is always in portrait mode?

I have a D90. Is there a "rotate tall" option in the D5000's playback menu? Is that what's causing your problem?

The D5000 shows the settings being used on the rear screen. When the camera is horizontal, the readings are displayed horizontally in the screen: when the camera is tilted, the readings appear "vertically" (tilted 90 degrees) in the screen. I guess the poster wants to be able to tell it to always use the landscape mode.

I was sure there was a setting in the menus for that.

That's exactly the case in point.
There is no way in any menu, printed manual, even from Nikon online help, that says you can turn this auto flip OFF. There isn't any. There should be one.

Osmosis explains the problem more clearly below.
I hope there would be a solution to this...

To add to the quagmire, if you press the i (Info) button while on vertical flip, the screen flips back to horizontal for input only and not for readings (even if still tilted!) What the...
The salespersons at the camera shop were all baffled about this when I asked them. Their only solution was to offer me a D90...

The D5000, I believe, has a built-in accelerometer. It's not really a boo-boo. Nikon just assumed that, if you're holding the camera vertically, you'd want to read the information vertically, and if you're holding it horizontally, the information should be read horizontally as well.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any way to deactivate this. D: Maybe it'll just take some getting used to?

Perhaps Nikon should have provided an Option such as an OFF switch if you don't like this Auto flip to portrait, just like in the images. My guess is they forgot to put that option on this one. I just hope they have a remedy patch or something...

True. Maybe in a future firmware update.
