Unhappy Help! My sb 600 won't fire

My SB600 won't fire on the camera and even off the camera, I've changed my batteries several times but it just won't work. It's just 8 month old.

I have never dropped it, help me!

Does the your SB600 power up?
If so, have you tried to do the two button reset, mode + power button.
I would try a different set of known good batteries, non-rechargable.
If that doesn't work, I would contact Nikon Support and get it fixed under warranty. I believe there is a 1 year warranty on this unit.

When you put it on the camera, do you lock it down?

i'm having the same problem. it is really wrecking my head!
i only got my SB-600 a week ago and bought brand new batteries for it. it worked a few times on the first day i had it and then intermittently. but now it won't work at all. the screen lights up as normal, but will not test flash. will not flash on hot shoe. will not flash remotely. it would beep 8 times remotely which i thought initially was a setting issue like perhaps aperture etc. but the fact it won't test flash worries me. i've reset my csm settings and also i've reset the flash unit. double checked settings.....
i've read so much on the internet .. but i'm not getting anywhere. i'm going to get a new set of batteries .... but hope i won't have to send the unit back, cos i bought it online from a shop in HK!

Make sure it's not set to be a remote flash...
And make sure your camera isn't set so that it's being used as a commander with no flash output.

yes all settings were reset on both camera & sb-600 just in case.
still, the flash should fire a test shot if it's not broken?
you can hear the capacitors charging when you turn on the unit - but will not test fire whatsoever.

Have you done any continuous firing lately? If you have you burned up the circuit board in it. The flash will come on, the test light will come on, but that is all it will do. That is a sign of a burned up circuit board. The reason i know this is my first SB-600 lasted bout 13 months when this happened. I bought a replacement and it lasted two weeks. i was shooting night pictures of our marching band and I was firing to fast and burned it up. luckily it was replaced for me. i now shoot a SB-900 and use the SB-600 as a backup. I haven't sent the first one off for repairs.
