Default D90 Shutter Priority shots are all black!

So, I just received my D90 a few days ago and have been messing around with every setting possible trying to learn. There is an issue, however. Whenever I use shutter priority mode, all shots are completely black! Has anyone experienced this? I really hope I don't have a lemon...

All of them are black, regardless what shutter speed you chose?

Yes, all are black regardless of speed.

What lighting condition were you shooting on?
If it's at dark condition, probably it's still not bright enough even though the camera picked the largest aperture possible
Personally I never shot on S priority though.. Prefer to shoot on A or M

I was just messing around taking pictures of my bird in a dimly lit (not dark) bedroom.

Ok, so I tried all shutter speeds by basically aiming at the window that has some natural light spilling in and im getting very dark images, but at least it's something.

What's your ISO and Aperture where they still appear dark?
Have you tried shooting the same scene using Aperture priority?
Try it and see what's the value of the shutter speed

Try adjusting your exposure compensation. The little button with the +/- on it.

Fixed shutter speed but your lens couldn't go faster than f/5.6 (I assumed)? So there wasn't enough light for all your shots.

Try set your ISO at 200 and auto ISO ON and max at 3200.

Or you could try shooting in full auto and check to see what shutter speed the camera selected. Then switch to S mode and select the same shutter (and ISO).
